About this Destination

Tanjung Puting National Park covers over 415,040 hectares of tropical heath and peat swamp forest. Made famous by Dr. Birute Mary Galdikas and Camp Leakey, this sanctuary is home to thousands of wild and rehabilitated Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus), proboscis monkeys with prominent pendulous noses, gibbons, hornbills, and false gharials. Travel is done aboard private liveaboard klotoks where guests sleep beneath mosquito nets on the open upper deck, surrounded by the chorus of the rainforest and fireflies lighting up the riverbank nipa palms.

How to Get There

Fly into Pangkalan Bun (PKN) Airport via Jakarta or Surabaya, followed by a 20-minute transfer to Kumai Port where your private klotok awaits.

Responsible Travel Tips

Always maintain at least 10 meters distance from orangutans. Never eat or drink in front of wild primates, and use reef-safe/biodegradable personal care items aboard the boat.

Best Time to Visit
May to October (Dry Season) and November to April (Lush Greenery)
